BOYDS STORE IS CLOSING

We would like to thank our loyal customers and friends for their support over the last two years, sadly the financial stress of relocating our store, quickly followed by the pandemic has meant that having a physical store is no longer financially viable. Our final day of trading will be Sunday the 13th of September from which point we will be online only.

It was always going to be a passion project and we knew it would take a couple of years to build a big enough brand and customer base, but with our sister weddings and event suit hire company The Vintage Suit Hire Company being catastrophically hit by COVID-19 we don’t have the funds we need to invest into stock to build the business, pay our overheads and make it a success.

Boyds got off to a great start when we launched our new venue in January, and it was really promising when we reopened back in July, but sadly as financial uncertainty grows and COVID-19 continues, our income has fallen off a cliff both in store and online. Ultimately, we face the prospect of trying to continue on a wing and a prayer in the face of the reduced footfall that winter brings and risk losing everything, or closing the shop proactively to allow us to focus on The Vintage Suit Hire Company.

We will continue to trade in September in an attempt to clear our stock down to see us through winter, so please do come along to the planned meets and grab a bargain, it would be nice to get to say goodbye properly.

It breaks our hearts that Guido and Jessie will sadly be losing their jobs. Having only joined the team last month they have already made a huge impression both on us and you and if you have any work going we cannot recommend them highly enough, their work ethic and attitudes are outstanding.

Boyds will live on in the friendships that have been forged here. We have genuinely made lifelong friends through the business, and even more pleasingly seen friendships born within these 4 walls. We will continue to trade online and probably release the odd t-shirt here and there and if we are able to recover financially (and mentally!) we may look to resurrect the brand in the shape of meets, shows or who knows what in the future.

Thanks and godspeed,

Tom, Jess and the Boyds team.
